Our Samsung S3370 Review

Features

Samsung have released their latest candybar mobile phone – the Samsung S3370, also known as the Samsung Acton. This handset has caused a lot of confusion since Samsung has seen fit to release it under different names in different regions. For example, in some areas it is called the Samsung Corby - in India it has been christened the Nano Star 3G! For the UK, we will stick to the Samsung S3370 Acton.

Touchscreen at a low price

The handset is an inexpensive touch screen phone and the features match the price. The design of the phone is similar to the other phones. Although it is not something new, the Acton does have a professional look about it, especially in the Silver colour. The display has the Touchwiz 2.0 interface.

Touchwiz 2.0

Touchwiz 2.0 is an interesting way to use the mobile phone. Its interface is based on a 6 sided cube, which Samsung calls the ‘multimedia cube’. Through this cube you can directly access different applications and different multimedia features; a kind of shortcut facility to these features and applications.

Samsung has tried to make everything look 3D. The cube rotates to give the 3d look and even most of the menus look three dimensional. While the interface is interesting sometimes we got the feeling that Samsung sacrificed some of the usability in order to make it look pretty. You can customise the three widget panels by downloading and assigning widgets to them.

Social Networking

Samsung has made the S3370 social network friendly by adding in Facebook and Myspace applications. The Facebook application provides you with all the important features like adding photos, changing your status, sending and reading messages.

The remainder of the phone is very much run-of-the-mill. We feel the focus of this mobile was to provide as many features as possible while maintaining a low price. The Samsung Acton has features that are enough for normal usage and we do not feel like you are lacking anything important.

One thing we noticed is that the phone looks kind of old. The reason for this is that the design used by Samsung for the Samsung Acton is different than the ones generally used by other smart phones as they are as minimal as possible. The phone has only 50mb of internal memory but this is not that big of an issue as it can be easily increased through a microSD card.

What We Liked

Social networking tools. Innovative way to browse phone content.

What We Disliked

Build quality could have been better.

Our Final Verdict

Generally, a fairly uninspiring handset, but with some redeeming features such as social networking. Great value for money.
