Our Nokia N96 Review
The Nokia N96 develops upon the successful N95, but this time with all of the minor problems ironed out and a superior list of features included.
On appearance alone, the N96 is beautiful to behold. As well as being lighter and thinner than its predecessor, the sleek, shiny black finish is simple and elegant, and the slide-out keypad is a pleasure to use. But it is the features that make this smart phone so special, and it is difficult finding anything that it can’t do.
One of the most notable developments from the N95 is the huge amount of storage the N96 comes with. With a whopping 16GB internal memory, it also has a microSDHC slot which could hold a card of up to 8GB, meaning you could have a phone with a fantastic 24GB in total.
Another important feature is the extended battery life. Whereas the N95 was running out of juice, the N96 will provide you with up to twice as much operating time with one charge.
The real hype surrounding the phone has been directed towards the advanced camera and video capabilities. With a 5MP camera, the N96 really does make it possible to forget about buying a digital camera. Its main improvement on the N95, however, is the two LEDs that the flash now incorporates for shooting in dark environments.
The movie quality is outstanding, and the phone can support video bit rates above 1.5 Mbps. It has a 2.8 inch QVGA display, a stand for hands-free viewing, and supports MP4, WMV and Flash, meaning you can either watch pretty much anything you want. The video camera also has a stabilisation feature so you don’t get any wobbles when you’re shooting.
The phone includes A-GPS technology which, although not unique to this model, allows you to mark your photos based on their exact location though the geo-coordinates. This is a nice little feature and helps when you are downloading your photos to your computer.
The Nokia N96 marks the beginning of the time when your mobile phone really could start to do everything for you without being too clunky or requiring hourly charging. The N96 is one smart phone that really does live up to its name.

PeytonJ submitted on 29 August 2008Battery life is indeed an issue with this handset if you're a heavy multimeida user. That didn't discourage me however, I just charge my mobile at the end of each day
Parker E. submitted on 15 June 2008The review mentioned occassional freezing, however; I did not come across us with my N96…overall its performance was ok
