Our Nokia E72 Review

Nokia E72 Introduction

Nokia E72 is very inspiring looking mobile which follows the footstep of the popular E71 with a solid steel body – ideal for business or pleasure use. It's operating system, although a tad cumbersome, is much better than E71. It has a desirable feature set, including a full QWERTY keyboard, QVGA (320 x 480) display, 3.5G HSDPA modem that can push up to 10.2Mbps, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, A-GPS, FM tuner, voice-command ability, and a 5.0 Megapixel camera with excellent flash.

Design

At first look you might mistake the E72 for any of one of the more strider BlackBerry models, but look closer, and Nokia’s notice to detail right away sets it apart as something different. Bright chrome runs around the edges in broad strips around buttons and the speaker in subtle accents, and carries over to a superb rear battery wrap that could double as a mirror if it were not ribbed with fine, fixed pinstripes.

Browser

We might expect such an old-fashioned operating system to pull along on Web browsing, the Nokia browser actually showed significant energy. It loaded all the websites we tested fairly quickly taking not more than 10 seconds on average.

Keyboard

The keyboard on the E72 is literally the best out there, like BlackBerry’s Bold 9700. Each key has a pillow knob that makes it easier to write and it gives a nice snappy return and generally feels very solid. It can type at full speed in no time and we have few doubts that this powerful keyboard will hold up well.

Camera

The Nokia E72 is a 5.0 megapixel shooter; it takes excellent pictures when it focuses properly. We found that most pictures taken from camera had great clarity and better colour accuracy than the E71, but the autofocus function seemed fairly peeling, especially when dealing with close up subjects. We hope Nokia will release a firmware update to fix this somewhat hit and miss quality to the camera, which would make it a real winner.

What We Liked

It has very extremely attractive design, BMW build quality, and rock-solid voice quality and reception. It also has fast-loading browser, above-average camera and great responsive navigation.

What We Disliked

It has an antiquated S60 interface, optical track pad which is not useful.

Our Final verdict

Overall it’s a wonderful mobile to use and carry. The E72 will not only appeal to business users, but anyone who is looking for a feature-rich handset.
