Our Toshiba T130 Review
Part of the “Satellite” series, the T130 is the premium version, though most people will be so in love with both that they won’t be able to tell the difference until they actually pop it open and start running it.
Sorry, we usually don’t spend this much time obsessing over first impressions, but it really is a sexy rig! Slick, sleek, black, mirror finish, red exterior (well, depending on your colour preference), it is so incredibly gorgeous a laptop, you’ll probably want to ruin its looks by slapping a big sticker on top just to keep people from stealing it.
Now if you’ll give us a minute to pop our eyes back into our collective head, we’ll get on with the actual review...
The screen boasts a resolution of 1366 by 768 on a nice big 16:9 LED backlit thirteen point three inches. Five hundred gigs of hard drive, eleven hour battery life, four gig DDR3 800MHz RAM, Intel Culv processor, though the T130 actually offers a choice of Intel Pentium, Intel Single Core, or Intel Celeron Single Core ultra low voltage.
What this all adds up to is that this is one of the most capable and potent little rigs in its price range. It’s only 1.58kg in weight, with a slender, tapered chassis, and carries WiFi and Bluetooth.
Now here’s where it gets really cool- Gesture support. The control pad lets you move objects around with your fingers. It takes some getting used to, but you wind up feeling like Tom Cruise in Minority Report, you know, with the holographic computer monitor?
Even cooler is the facial recognition. Look into the webcam, and you’re good to go. No passwords, no fingerprints, no nothin’. You can go ahead and complain about the lack of flying cars, jetpacks and colonies on Mars, but you gotta admit it’s the future when you start your computer up by staring at it.
Bottom line: At around £450, you have to be pretty greedy to ask for a better deal than the T130. The only people we would recommend against buying this rig would be those in a committed relationship, because your significant other will get jealous, whether or not they’re the jealous type.
